Maitresse-en-titre

This 2012 piece is on tracing paper in a range of leads, from 2H to 8B. I originally used tracing paper because I used a rough mashup of images to get the basic pose and anatomy right, but I've found I quite like it as a medium. It's very forgiving and allows very delicate work.

The artwork is a scene from a Harry Potter piece I'm writing called Sons of July, and the visual just wouldn't leave me alone even after I'd written it. Sons of July is an alternative take on the Second War told in three acts. The second act is an intrigue between Lucius and Tonks, who has been sent to spy on him. (The first act is Severus/Narcissa and the third act is the end of the war).

The scene it goes with is this:

Lucius," she gasped out, "the breakfast-"

"Fuck breakfast," he growled, thrusting out his arm wordlessly, and her tea and plates and the candelabra were swept down the table as though by an unseen hand. He leaned over her, and she yielded, sinking back, her head resting on the flower centrepiece, all white and yellow around her. "I love you, you understand?" he demanded, his voice trembling with something that might have been fury. "I love you."

She drew in her breath, staring up at him. Breaths shallow. Eyes wide. "Lucius, I-"

"Don't," he said harshly. He didn't want to hear whatever Dumbledore had told her to say when this moment came. "God, don't. Just be with me."
