Handparting

A moment from an unfinished fic fragment. It's unlikely to be finished - I have no idea where it's going.


"I grow weary, Rodolphus, of seeing Bellatrix alone."

The Dark Lord said this on the verandah of the Manor. It was raining lightly, and Bella was dawdling around idly on the grass a little distance away.

"My Lord?" Rodolphus queried.

"She suffers greatly. I must insist that you either be a husband to her, or consent to a divorce."

"Bellatrix has not asked for a divorce."

"I am asking," the Dark Lord said severely. "I stayed my hand for many years, out of regard for you, but things are different now. You have been apart for more years than you were together."

Rodolphus stiffened, but did not falter. "Of course, my Lord."

"Very good," the Dark Lord said shortly, and rising, he set off across the lawn.
